About the Artists

The Jones / Maruri cello guitar duo is one of the only established cello / guitar duos in the world and enjoys an active concert and recording career.

Formed in 1990 in Madrid, the Michael Jones and Agustin Maruri duo have since played concerts in Europe, North, Central and South America, as well as the Caribbean and Australia. Their first US tour was in 1991 and included concerts in New York and Florida. Since then they have performed each year in the USA, giving recitals in New York, Chicago, Houston, Washington DC, Los Angeles, San Francisco, etc., at venues such as the Lincoln Center, Metropolitan Museum of Art, Hancock Center and at festivals in the USA, Cuba and Venezuela.

The duo investigated the original historic repertoire for their instrument combination. Agustin Maruri received scholarships and awards as a result of, and towards, his work as a musicologist discovering many lost or forgotten works. They have also recorded most of the original repertoire of the twentieth century for the cello guitar combination, and have inspired living composers to write for them such as Pedro Saenz, Francesco Telli, Erik Marchelie, Nicholas Marshall and Jose Maria Sanchez Verdu, and Drew Hemenger.

They recorded three CD's of original music for cello & guitar which appeared in the top ten in the classical market. Their latest recording together ‘Don Quijote y Dulcinea’ was released in 2004.
