FFSC is a long term community outreach program which offers a comprehensive ensemble experience for a culturally and economically diverse group of youth. FFSC awards scholarships for private lessons and instruments to aspiring string students with financial need, and provides exposure to the arts and to professional artists in New York’s Hudson Valley and beyond. Over the last six years, the group has performed for charitable organizations, historic associations and community festivals in six states along the eastern seaboard and in the Canadian Maritime provinces, including appearances for the American String Teachers Association and the Music Educators National Conference (MENC). They have been selected from among performing groups across the eastern seaboard to perform in March, 2007, at the MENC All-Eastern Conference in Hartford, Connecticut.
We are delighted to announce two new initiatives for 2006:
Our expanded music outreach program through the National MusicLink Foundation. FFSC is now an affiliate of MusicLink, which matches promising music students who are unable to afford music lessons with professional music teachers in their communities. MusicLink is proud to have reached over 2,100 students from over 40 states.
Our “Serving Strings” ensemble in the Poughkeepsie City School District, whose purpose is not only to engage audiences through their performances, but to use their musical talents to guide them toward becoming worthy, contributing members of their community.
Young string musicians from both of these programs will be joining FFSC members, interns and MusicLink students to present our “Strings in a Winter Wonderland” concert for Saugerties Pro Musica on Sunday, December 3, 2006. Our new programs are supported by The United Methodist Church of Kingston, the Poughkeepsie City School District, and both Bard and Vassar Colleges. In addition, we extend our gratitude to all of the Hudson Valley families, friends, musicians, and businesses who support us through donations and concert attendance!
